Training

Protect your family and your pet, be Doggone Safe.

We only support trainers who use positive training methods. This means we believe in gentle training that builds a relationship. We do not endorse training by any method that advocates the use of pain, fear, or violence, to any animal.

"Problems can never be solved by using the same pattern of thought which created them."

Albert Einstein

After twenty years of working with animals, we realize a traumatized, ill, or injured, animal must be controlled, but we also know there are ways to handle difficult situations that protect the trainer and the animal without adding more trauma and pain to a difficult situation.

If you search for an instructor through a certification agency, remember that member trainers methods and philosophies may vary. Most organizations test for a specific base of knowledge and use a broad standard to determine acceptable methods. That does not mean all trainers use the same methods. Visit the facility, ask questions, and check references carefully.

Do not ever send your dog away for training. Do not send them to training or summer camps where you are not present. If any facility does not want you to visit, you need to ask why. This is no different than a nursing home or children's day care facility that locks the door and discourages visitation. If there is nothing to hide, there is no reason for you not to be welcome.
