Services
Please
check out all services carefully. Check the
local Better Business Bureau, check references from clients, and verify
the length of time in business. Also, verify that all required
licensing is current. The
safety of your best friend is at stake.
- Talk
to your veterinarian when you begin to plan your trip.
- Check legal requirements for health
certificates and vaccinations records.
- Be familiar with plants, pests, diseases,
and laws, at your destination.
Another
consideration, when choosing a mode of transportation, is your pet's
personality and health, including any known medical conditions. Extreme
caution and extra security
are required for pets that
try to escape, as well as for those that suffer anxiety reactions when
in unfamiliar
environments. If your pet has a medical problem or is of an
advanced age, it may further limit the modes of transport that are
suitable.
Breed and
species may also affect your choices.
Breeds and species that don't
tolerate wide temperature fluctuation may die when confined in
kennels/carriers or when subjected to conditions that are not
temperature controlled--for instance,
sitting on the tarmac at an airport between flights or riding in a car
without
air conditioning or heat.
