Texas Rabies Exemption Information

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Just a short note to keep Texas residents informed. If you are concerned about your pets, read what’s happening to the rabies laws in Texas.

I believe that veterinarians should be able to decide when an animal is not well enough to be vaccinated, due to age or illness. As it stands now, your veterinarian doe not have that authority. If you want to comply with the law, you must subject your pet to the risk of vaccination related illness, and possibly death, or be in violation of the law.

This practice does not respect the welfare of the animals or the medical expertise of the veterinarians.

Spread the word and talk to your veterinarian. Let them know you are informed and want the best possible care for your pets. The present law does not allow your veterinarian to provide that care because it takes away his or her right to make the best medical decision for each individual animal. Texans need to push for this exemption. It will not affect compliance with rabies vaccinations, and it will not allow people to avoid vaccination requirements.
